When is my land hermit crab ready to change shells?

i just got two small hermit crabs and i need to buy them spare shells but i need to know how long will i have before i need to git those shells

When is my land hermit crab ready to change shells?
They will move when they are ready too, and when they get to big for their shell. When I had a hermit crab farm, they channged shells every 1-2 months.

Reply:They'll let you know when their ready because they'll climb out of their old ones revealling theirwhole bodys. when that happens go get new shells! hop i helped
Reply:Some species of hermit crabs like to change shells frequently others hardly at all.

You should go out and buy some shells that are close to the crabs current size and shape. The opening shape is the big one you should watch for. buy non painted shells rather than painted death traps. Craft stores often sell these for cheeper.

Get at least three shells per crab now to prevent shell fights. Crabs grow very slowly so they won't need a huge shell right away but sometimes they will fight other crabs for their shells if they like them
Reply:you should get the shells now and make sure they are slightly bigger
Reply:they need new shells once they out grow the ones they have what i would do is buy them now plus a few extra incase they are to big or small then put the shells in with them
