.410 Shotgun Shells for Defense in a Short Barrel?

I'm considering the purchase of a popular two-barrel derringer that is chambered for .410 Shotgun Shells and has a 3 and 1/2 inch barrel. My problem is that I've heard that the .410 Bore Buckshot load has penetration problems out of such short barrels. Does anyone know if that is true? Thanks for the help!

At very close range it will be deadly. You would be better off with a .22.
Reply:Yes, there are penetration problems with the .410, especially with that short of a barrel....Not that mention you only have 2 shots.

There are lots of other choices for small firearms out ther, many much better suited for self defense.

Baby glocks

Kel-Tec

Snob nose revolver, ect.
Reply:Across a decent sized room, you would be fortunate to put more than one or two BBs into someone with a 3 1/2 barrel. The rest will wind up in your walls. The ones that hit him would do little damage, unless you were at a very short distance. A small handgun would be a better choice.

Before you go with the .410, check your local laws. Wisconsin prohibits possession of a shotgun with a barrel less than 18 inches.
Reply:That's pretty big for a barrel. You'll likely just take down a wall. My weapon of choice is my 130 lb dog. My husband prefers a 9MM handgun. You can't hide from my dog, though.
