How do i make holes in pistachio shells... ??

I want to make a garland out of the shells and i need to make a hole in each to get the string through.... is there an easy way to pierce holes without having to buy any little gizmo??

I'll bet you could heat a needle or small nail on your range and simply push it through the shell.
Reply:If you have a Dremel hand drill with a tiny drill bit that would be the easiest. If not try Luther's hot needle suggestion. A heated sewing machine needle would be the next best.
Reply:Try a corkscrew tip to start the hole off. I'd do it while the nut was in the shell, though, unless you want to find something to stuff it with while drilling. Hold the nut in your hand, but protect your hands with padding, or a towel wrapped around it.
Reply:Small drill bit or a sharp utility knife.
