Why are egg shells in the UK brown, and the ones in the USA white?

Different species of chickens lay different colored eggs. The colors can range from blue to green, from white to brown, and even pink and gray. For example, the Rhode Island Red lays white eggs, while the Plymouth Rock lays brown eggs. The Araucana can lay blue, green, or brown eggs.

You can find most colors of eggs in the United States, with both brown eggs and white eggs being available in most supermarkets. The shell color, however, say nothing about the flavor of the egg. Most people can not distinguished between a cooked brown egg and a cooked white egg without their shells.

Hope that helps.

Why are egg shells in the UK brown, and the ones in the USA white?
It does not depend on the country, it depends on the breed.

Check out this website and you will see :-)
Reply:The difference between brown eggs and white eggs is the difference between hen breeds, and has nothing to do with where the chicken eggs came from. It's more common for commercialized eggs to be white, but that's just circumstantial.
Reply:The USA has egg shells that are brown.
Reply:White chickens lay white eggs. Red and brown chickens lay brown eggs.
Reply:We have brown eggs here in the USA, it all depends on what you feed the chickens.
Reply:Not quite accurate... USA has white eggs as well as brown, with white being predominant. UK has more brown, but has white as well.

Shell color is all about the breed of chicken. Several breeds of chicken that lay brown-shelled eggs do better in the moderate climate in UK rather than the more harsh seasonal weather in many areas of USA. The reverse is true in USA, although in certain regions there might be more brown eggs produced because those same breed of chickens are raised more successfully.
Reply:i think your chickens are of hispanic descent, and ours are of white descent...lol
Reply:We have the brown ones here, too. The difference is in the type of chicken.
Reply:You can get brown here too, it is an egg from a different type of chicken. There are all kind of different breeds of chicken and they lay somewhat diffferent eggs. Some lay brown eggs and my mom always told me they tasted the sane but were richer.

Reply:Not all eggshells in US are white - some are brown as well. The white ones have been bleached for sanitary reasons.
