I have a large mussel shell. I've seen similar shells in stores, and they've been coated with something to

make them shiny, but I don't know what they're coated with. Does anyone know?

Thank you!

I really appreciate the yahoo answers community, you've helped me a lot with all my little projects :)

I coat my shells with Varathane which is a non-yellowing, UVB/UVA protecting, waterproof polyurethane. You can find it at the home improvement stores and it comes in both spray and brush on. For shells, I prefer the brush on because I can get into the nooks and crannies better.
Reply:You can spray it with some clear shlak, its mainly used for wood, but you can use it on rocks, wood, tile, pretty much anything, it protects them from the weather and makes the shinny. Good Luck!!
Reply:Use polyurethane. It's cheap and can be put on with a brush.
