What can be done with egg shells for outside flowers?

I know years ago my momma used to put coffee grounds and egg shells on our plants outside. What kind of plants and does it help only with certain kind of trees, etc??

put the egg shells into a gallon jar full of water. just keep adding shells. then use the water on the hanging baskets and flowering pots. the shells add needed calcium to the plants. helps them bloom and stay blooming all summer.
Reply:place finely crunched eggshells around plants where you see the tell-tale slime of slugs/snails. The shells pierce their bodies and help reduce their damage without poisoning the rest of the garden.

Coffee grounds are very useful and add a little bit of acid to alkaline soil. Some plants prefer the acid more than others, but the grounds are a useful addition to your soil and compost heap.

The eggshells also carry calcium, a mineral that is useful for all growing things.

Using these materials is an easy, earth friendly way to give something back to your garden. In fact, I don't know of any pests these two items would attract, so you can probably toss them onto the plants and shrubs right outside of the door without inviting unwanted guests to your threshold.
Reply:Egg shells and coffee grounds help put nutrients back in the soil. You can place them around the plants or throw them in a compost pile. I haven't heard of a plant that they don't help.

I've never tried it but I've read that if you have trouble with snails or slugs, place some coarsely crushed egg shells around the affected plant. Snails and slugs won't go over the sharp edges of the egg shells.
Reply:Egg shells and coffee grounds are good for all plants. They help to aerate the soil. and give it nutrients as the decompose.
