My turtles shells and face are turning green. Rubbing it gets some off but not much. What is causing it?

They are two painted turtles. The tank and water is not green.

hi there

this is algae that is growing on ur turtles it's perfectly normal and this means it's healthy .. as long as it's not bothering the turtles i wouldn't worry ... it if bothering u then just lightly scrub the shells with a soft tooth brush .. and run them under warm water (not hot)...
Reply:It's obvoiusly fungus growing on them.......think about it if you leave something in water long enough (especially without cleaning it often) your going to have strange growths ......

(especially if they are made out of wood)
Reply:its called algea maybe you should get a filter so the water isn't dirty
