Need a San Diego area beach with a lot of shells?

I remember, as a kid, going to a couple beaches in San Diego that had sand dollars, conch shells, and all sorts of cool shells, but don't have any idea of their names.

Does anyone know any good shell beaches in San Diego, or anywhere in Southern California for that matter?

Thanks a bunch!

Need a San Diego area beach with a lot of shells?
there is a beach that starts on 15th steet del mar and a beach called torrey pines beach in between is a stretch of beach witch not many ppl go it tis about 2 miles long ive found about 21 sand dollar there b4 it has many cool rock and shells
Reply:Definitely go to Torrey Pines..... you have to walk for a while though...its a long stretch of beach, that not very many people go to, because its not really a bathing beach, but more of a walking beach (if that makes sense)....good luck
Reply:La Jolla Cove, La Jolla Shores (but you need to go WAY east where nobody goes), and Imperial Beach.
Reply:I agree with the first two answers. Sadly though, San Diego's beaches have pretty much been picked clean of the "good" shells, and all you will likely find in most beaches are the little tiny crab shells that are shaped like a half of a heart. I've lived here most of my life and I too used to enjoy getting the shells you've mentioned. Unfortunately though, if one wants to find such shells in San Diego, most people will have to purchase them at tourist stores, and those shells aren't even from San Diego, but somewhere else. :(
Reply:Most of the popular beaches get picked clean so you wont find many shells. The best spot for sand dollars is the south end of Imperial Beach.

Exit Coronado Avenue from I-5 in South San Diego, Turn left on Seacoast and go to the end. There is a parking area.

Good hunting
