How do I keep the shells from cracking when I boil eggs?

Stick a pin in the blunt end (gently!). There's an air bubble in there which can expand and crack the shell. If you put a tiny hole in, the air can escape. Don't push the pin in too far tho or the egg will leak out.

How do I keep the shells from cracking when I boil eggs?
Do not put too much water. Make sure the eggs are barely cover and do not put them in too tight. Make sure the egg does not have a crack before you put them in. This happens more that you would think.
Reply:Put the eggs in a pan and cover them with COLD water. Slowly bring the water to a simmer then full boil. When the water starts to boil, turn the heat off, cover the pan and let the eggs sit for about 10 minutes. You may then uncover the pan and drain the water. Let the eggs cool before coloring.
Reply:well, cover eggs fully with water when boiling. try putting some salt in the water or vinegar, white vinegar in the water when boiling.
Reply:It may be the egg quality, if the water pressure does this try a different egg.

You could put it on a lower boil, but that really shouldn't happen.

It may be there is a crack in the egg when you put it in the pot, or it could crack when it hits the pot bottom.
Reply:First, put in cool water if u put in hot water there is a chance the egg may crack because of the change in temperature from the fridge to the sudden increase in temperature from the hot water. I really dont know if that salt trick really works because what salt actually does to boiling water is that it helps reach boiling point quicker i dont see how that would help the egg from cracking. : )
Reply:your eggs are too cold when you put them in the water don't put them straight in from the fridge !
Reply:#1 dont throw them in the pot.then add some saltand dont over boil
Reply:Put a little salt in the pan before you start boiling the water.
Reply:don't put eggs from the fridge into boiling water...

eggs must be at room tempeture 4 a couple of hours prior to boiling (boiling water to start with) 3.5 min soft boiled or 7 min hard boiled.......
Reply:Keep it on a steady boil but not too high. When it's on a rumbling boil, the eggs will hit each other and ultimately crack open.

Also when you put them in the water dont drop them in. Use a pair of tongs to gently place them on the bottom.
Reply:put water in the pot first anyway bring pot to boil, cover and remove from heat, wait 18 minute and rinse with cold water so they peal easier.
Reply:put an ice chips inside to avoid the water from heating too much.
Reply:boil the water at a lower temperature and put the eggs in carefully some people say put salt in the water but that doesn't really help.
Reply:Put the eggs in the pot gently before you add the water. then add the water put it on the stove at about medium hi heat and let it boil. that's all i know how to do just be gentle.
Reply:Good answer roisM. Indeed, just make a little hole with a pin, you eggs will never crack anymore.
