Can I put painted shells in my Hermit Crabs tank?

I have two hermit crabs, and I got these shells from a party. Their really cool and I wanted to put them in the tank. There real shells, but there painted. I was wondering if this was safe for hermit crabs.

Can I put painted shells in my Hermit Crabs tank?
yes but sterilize them in boiling water first to cut out bacteria being transferred to the hermit crabs they might make it thier new home one day
Reply:Painted shells are toxic to hermit crabs, they should never be offered to them! Report It
Reply:did u ask the crabs about it
Reply:Yes alot of people do it so they can tell their pets apart from one another, and it gives them a touch of class.
Reply:Yes it is,sometimes hermit crabs even wear painted shells.
Reply:yes you can just make sure the paint doesnt chip of it cuz it gets put it in the food by accident and the crab eats it, paint is a poison to them, as well as other animals just keep a close eye on it chipping especially if it gets wet
