Why aren't there sea shells on the Oregon Coast anymore?

When I visited the Oregon Coast years ago, we came home with several clam shells and sand dollars. This year we couldn't even find any remnants of clam shells, and there were just a few sand dollar pieces.

Why aren't there sea shells on the Oregon Coast anymore?
Beachcombers like low tide, because that's when the flotsam, jetsam, driftwood, shells, etc., are most visible. Stuff that washes up tends to get left behind by the receding tide.

Perhaps you were there during high tide, when less stuff was visible?
