Is it ok to have walnut shells as a substrate and a seperate feeding cage for my 8 in beardie?

When i bought the beardie it was recremended that i get the walnut shells. i was worried about the lizzard eating the shells and geting impacted so a got a seperate feeding tank. Is this okay.

No. Just take out the walnut shells. No point risking impaction. Paper towels or newspaper is cheaper and safer. Crushed walnut shells are about the worst substrate out there. Not only can it be easily ingested, but it swells up and expands when wet, making a blockage much more likely.

Reply:No, loose substrates are very dangerous. I use non-adhesive shelf liner--cheap, easy to clean, looks great.
Reply:It is not recommended, as walnut shells as similar to sand when it comes to causing problems. The walnut shells harbor bacteria. They have coarse pieces that can cause injury. Also, they can cause the dragon to have a prolapse if the pieces come into contact with the dragons "organs" when they go to the bathroom.
