Are egg shells good or bad for a sink disposal?

Egg shells are excellent. they clean up the inside of disposer when disposing! ( inside of disposer builds up fruit sugars, and other debris that make it smell, the shells help remove that ) I also have my customers dispose of their coffee grounds too ( do this a little at a time for fresher smell) Good luck!

Good.
Reply:Bad!!. Garbage disposals are only useful for stuff that's NOT hard (eggshells, bones), sticky (syrup, honey) or stringy (spaghetti). They dull the blades and clogs the opening to the drain leaving a funky smell in the sink.

Having said that - I run Very Hot water down the disposal anytime i use it. Keep it fresh by putting cut up lemons in it.
Reply:Bad.Originally, garbage disposers, actually "food disposers", were found only in commercial applications. Later, in the late 1960's they began showing up in residential applications. Residential food disposers are really only designed to help with what little food is remaining on plates after dinner. Not all of the potatos, green bean casserole, and chicken bones. I have unstopped a thousand drains that I literally had to remove the pipes and dig out the packed in shrimp shells, pasta, potato peels, rice, grease, man you name it, I've pulled it out of a kitchen drain. Most apartment complexes use the cheapest of disposers that jam and lock up regularly. This is often caused by bottle caps, coins, gum(never put gum in a disposer), jewelry(ouch), or any of a number of items. I can servise one in seconds sometimes, or replace in a couple of minutes but its gonna cost ya' darlin'.
Reply:just keep water running when using, disposals are good for plumbers only.
Reply:Egg shells will help clean your disposal, so will chicken bones and will not hurt it. One thing for sure ,never use hot water. Cold water cools the motor housing making the disposal last longer.
Reply:Someone on YA sometime ago said that egg shells are good for sharpening the blades in the disposal. I hesitate to try it though. I'm really cautious about what I put into my disposal.
Reply:They will probably go down just fine. After they ge wet they are going to get soggy so they are going to go down better because they are softer!
Reply:i think bad
Reply:bad!
