I am told that in countries where the bean's been revered for thousands of years, they never throw out the husks/pods/shells because they use them for other .....well, that's my question - what do they use them for?

Does anyone know how cooks use the leftover shells (pods) of edamame?
My friend uses her empty edamame pods for composting %26amp; mulch. I know the empty pods can also make great food for livestock %26amp; cattle.
Reply:they can be made into a stock, but usually just thrown away.
