Do turtles die if their out of their shells for to long?

Wow, I really wish you'd had learned this in Kindergarden. Turtles (NO TURTLE IN HISTORY) has ever been able to get out of its shell. They cannot come out of their shells. They're not like hermit crabs, who live in snail shells. They differ, because a turtle's shell grows with it. A hermit crab however, it just finds a larger snail shell everytime it needs a bigger one. A turtle's shell is made up of a genetic compound called Keratin. Its the exact same material that makes up our own hair and finger nails.

Do turtles die if their out of their shells for to long?
if a turtle is out of his shell he's dead... a turtle's spine in actually attached to the shell. So essentially if he's out, he's spines broken and no longer attached to his body. Lets rip any animals spine out and see how long they live.
Reply:They cannot leave their shells- the shell is a modified rib cage, sternum, and backbone. It kills a turtle to even try to remove the shell.

It is not just attached to the backbone- it IS the backbone.
Reply:I think you have been watching Bugs Bunny. You know the one where BB is racing the tortoise (I'm South African, Turtles live in the water, Tortoises live on the land). At one point the tortoise is knocked out of his shell and stands there in his underwear.

In real life it can't happen! As the other posters have said, the shell is a modified rib cage.
Reply:a turtle will die if it comes out of its shell and what are you 5 and why do you want to know?
Reply:turtles can't disconnect from their shells. their spine is fused to the top. if your turtles all the way out of its shell you messed up big time.
Reply:what?! please list more specific details.
Reply:a turtle can not be out of their shells too long because thats impossible and havent you asked this question before?
Reply:yes they will die, because, the get cold, they might get cut on cage suroundings, and turtles are attached to their shells you idiot
Reply:no, theyll usually shed the old shell and grow in to a new one and usually its a little bit bigger so they will not have to shed gor a while

and a turtle can NOT come out of its shell, there like glued to it...

but it mainly depends on what kind of turtle...
