What do I use to shine the shells I found at the beach?

I have some beautiful shell's that when wet are absolutely breath taking but when they dry they're blah-zay . What do I use to show the their true beauty ?

I personally would not do anything to them. However, I have seen others put clear laquer on shells. I would first make sure that all the creatures are out of them. Sadly, what I do to make sure the creatures are dead is to soak the coral or shells in clorox bleach. I suppose you do not want to do that. Soak them in plain tap water for a week or so just to be sure. If they perk up their look while sitting in the tap water, they should be fine to shine. Try clear acrylic spray on one and see how that works. Personally, I have heard of it done but alwasy merely left my shells without varnish. It can be done, though, and clear spray acrylic may be your best bet.
Reply:I don't know about making them shiny but I do know that you should soak them in a blanch water solution to kill off bacteria and germs before you handle them. Probably something like a cup of bleach to a gallon of water.
Reply:Shellac - a clear finish used for furniture.

Available in craft or hardware stores. Best to buy as spray can.
