I have 2 red ear sliders and one of their shells are very delicate and soft what does this mean?

When i first got these turtles, one of their shells was cracked. That one is very healthy and playful. In the beginning my second one was the playful one and now he is very shy and his shell is extremley soft and it started to become slimey.

Do you have a basking light? This is one of the most important things to your turtles. They need to have a basking light over the land area in their tank. This is their sun, it gives them nutrients and helps their shell to grow and stay strong. In addition they also need a varied diet. Baby turtle pellets are good but they need live insects or feeder fish as well. These will add protein to their diet and help them grow. You should also buy VitaShell by Tetrafauna. It's a small jar of lotion made for turtle shells and skin. It strengthens and conditions their shell as well as softens skin. If he doesn't get better soon you may need to take him to a vet, this can be deadly to them. His shell can also become severely deformed if it doesn't harden properly. Good luck!
Reply:i would bring it to i vet if i were u
Reply:One you should have a dry area, with a heat lamp for them to dry their shell and algae wont grow on them. Second your turtles shell is soft because of lack of calcium and you should take her to a vet.
Reply:Your turtle has soft shell. If you treat it quickly, it may survive.

Add a UV light, and feed it minnows (the bones contain calcium).

A qualified reptile veterinarian may be able to help.
Reply:Sounds like a lack of vitamins get some Tetrafauna Turtle Vitashell and it should fix him right up.
Reply:if the shell is really delicate its because it needs calcium you can feed her fish but just don't give her to much because then she wont be able to put her neck inside of her shell if it is slimy check your food and see if it is not spoiled hope i can help a bit
