Such colors! Red, White, Gold! And why is the staff of the pope bended at the top?
What is the meaning of the sea shells on the popes gown?
that is a shepherds staff, or crook. it is in reference to christ, the good shepherd. the sea shells, i don't know. i want to get all metaphysical on you and say that it represents the goddess of the deep, but, the answer to that one is simply, i don't know. great question.

Reply:The seashells seemed to make reference to a personal symbol for the Pope. When he served as archbishop of Munich, he had placed the image of a seashell on his coat of arms representing the traditional sign of the pilgrim.
Reply:When the Catholic missionaries came to the New World, they offered indulgences for sale to the Indians. The Indians paid in wampum which is sea shells. This trade is represented by the shells on the Pope's gown.
Reply:A sea shell fastened to a man's hat was a signal that he was a pilgrim. The Pope's sea shells signify that he, too, is a pilgrim.
The staff is bent at the top in emulation of a shepherd's crooked stick, as the children of Christ are often referred to as sheep and Christ as the Good Shepherd.
Reply:Saint Peter, the first Pope, was a fisherman (the sea shells) and described by Jesus as a Shepard of Man (shepards crook).
Reply:I don't know
