Is there another alternative if you can't find hard/soft taco shells in stores?

I love tacos, and I wanted to try and cook for my family coz I already tried it once with my own version and my friends loved it, the only problem is I can't find taco shells may it be hard or soft shell, can I use bread instead?

Is there another alternative if you can't find hard/soft taco shells in stores?
Soft taco shells are called "tortillas" they come in flour or corn.
Reply:Easy, buy corn tortillas. Place them in tin foil and bake them till they are hot, you basically want them to be pliable. You can use them like this for soft tacos or you can stuff them with your filling fold them in half and fry them in oil for a crisp shell.
Reply:try some pita bread
Reply:Chips.
Reply:did you ask them? they are usually in the ethnic aisle at the store where the hispanic foods are. but if they don't have them, use pita bread. in IL, we buy the tacos made with pita bread instead of taco shells and in the restaurants, they sell them as super tacos. it works. you can also use tortilla chips, like plain doritos or tostitos or something. we call it taco salad when we use tortilla chips.
Reply:You could use flour tortillas,if you can find them. Otherwise, make what I make. My six year old calls it "taco pie" I made it tonight. Make white rice, cook the meat, add seasonings to the taco meat. When meat and rice are done, spoon meat over rice, add taco cheese. Sour cream on top,we use ranch dressing.
Reply:Of course you can make tacos at home. Just about every store carries corn or flour tortillas. Commercial hard taco shells are corn tortillas deep fried until crispy...you can deep fry of pan fry a corn tortilla at home until hard and crispy.....drain well. Same with a flour tortilla, they puff up and make an excellent base for filling........whether you fry them flat or turn and fry into a taco shape.

BREAD? Sure you can use that........but you can't call it a taco. If you live way out in the boonies somewhere and can't find tortillas, you can make a Frito Pie or what some call a Haystack. Just spread Fritos or any other corn chip or tortilla chip on the plate, cover with your taco meat and/or beans, sprinkle on grated cheese, then add your fresh stuff.......letttuce, onions, tomato, more cheese if wanted, sour cream and salsa or hot sauce.
Reply:tortilla chips work great! I wouldn't use bread. You could always make a taco pizza too. Good luck!
Reply:mix flour and a little oil or grease together to form a ball. take a bit of the ball and form it into a circle make it thin (use flour on the surface of the board or counter so it won't stick) after it is the size you want it to be cook it in a skillet until it has little brown spots on it and you have just made your own flour burrito shells
Reply:if they dont carry them where you live, id suggest learning to make them. its not as hard as youd think. i wouldnt use bread. l or look in other stores, they cant all be out
