In using egg shells for the garden, I hear you are to let them ferment. Why?

I remember hearing the garden guy on HGTV talk about mixing water with egg shells and letting it stand until it smelled like rotten eggs. What is the advantage of this?

In using egg shells for the garden, I hear you are to let them ferment. Why?
ok..... putting egg shells in water and letting them sit(for a week or so)....is used to water your house plants...and your outdoor plants in the summer...this will give them Calsium...and

You can take your egg shells after using them in cooking...wash the shell out...let it dry...(I have a coffee can that i save my clean egg shells in)...I use them to start seeds...., and I also crush up the egg shells to put around flowers that are being visited by slugs....And You can add them to your vegetable garden...help there too....and...If you happen to have a compost started....add egg shells to it too!!

hope this helps in this matter...And....if you wash the egg shells...before you add them to the water...the water will not smell that bad....and you will still get a Good thing to give to your plants/gardens..and compost pile.

Happy Gardening!!
Reply:Fermenting the eggshells releases the nitrogen contained inthe shells. as well as making the phosphorous more readily available for absorption by the plant roots.
Reply:It gets rid of the sulphur and leaves only the neutralizing elements of the shell.
Reply:I also thought it would cut up the slugs as they glided over it!!!

I am serious,

but i just crack the eggs and crumble them up and toss them out there!
