Do you need to boil the shells?

do you need to boiling the shells first when making stuff shells.

Could you use the no boil method.

Just fill the shells and bake?

Theoretically, you could just fill the shells and bake them. However, since they would be absolutely rigid with no flexibility, you would run the risk of breaking them.

What I would suggest is par-boiling them - meaning, boil them for about half the time the package recommends (usually, about 5 or 6 minutes for a par-boil.) Then stuff them and finish them in the oven.

Bon appetit!
Reply:You really need to at least parboil them first. Usually I cook them just short of al dente, then drain and throw them in the refrigerator to "firm up" a bit. Then they are much easier to fill, and don't seem to break as much.
Reply:The no boil method will work if the shells are marked as such. Look for the pasta shells that say no boiling required.......otherwise the shells will bake and be hard and somewhat gummy.....
