Why does my dog eat coffee grounds and egg shells?

she is forever tearing apart the trash to get at them, even tho she knows it is a no-no. how can i stop her from eating them?

Trash can with a lid, or put it inside a cabinet. Another option is to kennel your dog whenever you are not around. Or just keep her confined to a particular room. The problem with dogs is that they are like small children. They know they are not supposed to do that, which is why they do not do it when you are at home. But when you are away they just cannot control themselves. Every dog has something different they go after. This does sound like an unusual desire, but each dog has their own thing. It is very difficult to break them of this while you are away, better to just prevent it all together.
Reply:A lot of dogs get into the garbage and eat whatever is in them, no-no, or not.

put your garbage can on a counter top if you leave the house or are not supervising the dog at all times. or you could just put your garbage can under the sink.
Reply:Well then, the dog must like eating coffee grounds and egg shells. Let it him enjoy it...Coffee grounds would just get him hyper. And Egg shells would just tear his intestines if he is not chewing them right. But if you really don't want him to enjoy them. Just put the garbage where he can't get to it.. Simple as that...
