Is there such thing as pre made empanda shells???
Yes. They're in the frozen food section. Check ethnic foods in the frozen food section. I use these all the time. They're by Goya and they do have other brands. These come in two sizes, regular size and pastelillo size. They also carry the plain dough or the orange colored empanada dough. These are known as empanada discs.
Reply:I found an answer for this months ago and now lost

BUT

empanada is a pastry similar to pie dough???

the only other shells for pastry can be found here

You may "MAY" find it with the other pie dough or frozen pie shells..?

em·pa·na·da NOUN:

A Spanish or Latin-American turnover with a flaky crust and a spicy or sweet filling.

Spelling errors...Agghhh
Reply:Premade Pie Crust works great, just sprinkle with cinamon and sugar, or if you want that premade get Cinamon toast sugar as it is premixed.
Reply:Hi Josie,

Yes, they do sell the premade shells in some grocery stores in teh freezer section. I buy these occassionally when I'm making Empanadas because if I made them from scratch, it would be like triple the work. Buying them, all I have to do is add the filling.

I forget the brand that I buy, but it is from a Latino distributor and purposely for frying.
Reply:well if you're frying them, you could probably use something like wonton wrappers...ive used it to make samosas before, not sure how it would work if you're making empanadas tho....kinda similar tho =)
Reply:DOUGH: 2 cups flour, 2 tbsp.oil, 1 egg, 1/2 cup milk, 2 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 tsp. salt

Sift the dry ingredients, add oil. Beat the egg, add to the milk and add this to the flour and lard. Roll out in small quantities and fill.

You could also use the refrigerated pie crust (in any grocery store) and roll it out a little bit thinner, then cut the shape you need for empanadas.

.
Reply:just get the folded pie shells in the refrigerated section of your grocery store...works really good and is inexpensive..you can roll them out and make them as big or as small as you like...usually use the top of a drinking glass dipped in flour!!!!
