Is there a beach near stinson or San Francisco that you can find shells at ?
you can find shells at all the beaches in Marin, SF, San Mateo and Sonoma Counties. However they are all also part of either state or federal park systems so collection of artifacts such as shells, rocks etc. is prohibited. All of these beaches are also family friendly buy beware of going into the water with small children as the rip-tides and sleeper waves are very unpredictable and dangerous.
Reply:I know there is a beach near Hunter's Point (San Francisco) that is packed with shells! Well, there's a small beach area, then you have to walk through the water to get to very small beaches with shells everywhere! There are hills you can climb down also to get to these, it is very fun. The beaches are near a golf course and a picnic ground/biking area, but I forget what it's name is. I got tons of beautiful shells from there though, it's awesome.

Reply:Mimik is absolutely correct--it’s illegal to collect most plants, animals, shells, or even rocks from state beaches and parks.

The plants and animals at the coast live in a carefully balanced environment. They need the materials provided by the decomposition of dead organisms.
