Where is the best place on Sanibel Island to pickup nice shells?

Love Sanibel go there every year. I think the best place is near the Lighthouse. I find the best stuff there; I also found that it is the best place to find sand dollars. I have gotten some pretty amazing shells. The best time to go is during low tide in the morning. There are like three sand bars that you can get to pretty much all the way down the beach, use your toes and dig when you walk you will find some good stuff. Bring a mesh bag or a bucket (mesh works better) I would also bring a small shovel (the kids plastic ones will do). Get ready to do the Sanibel Stoop, that is what the locals call it everyone walks around with their head down! Also if you can across the bridge on Captivia has some pretty good shells, Captivia is small and worth taking a trip to you can find some great stuff on the east side of the island. Oddly enough if you are there doing a full moon you usually find more. I would also check the tide charts, low tide is better anywhere on the island, you can also check with the Sanibel Island Visitors Center and they can tell you where the hot spots have been lately. Have fun stooping!
