How do I make home-ade taco shells?

Make your own soft taco shells or burrito wraps

1 cup flour

1/2 cup cornmeal

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 egg

Beat together till smooth. Fry thin circles on a griddle until lightly browned.

(I use a Teflon griddle and tip it to spread the batter.) If it is too thick, thin with water. Stack in oven to keep warm.

To turn them in to crisp taco shells:

Heat oil over medium heat in a skillet.

Carefully add half of the tortilla (folded into a taco shape) and fry until golden (you will need to hold up the tortilla half the entire time.).

Using tongs, carefully flip the tortilla to fry the other side until golden (continue holding the free edge to maintain the shape).

Remove from skillet and balance the shell (Teepee style) on a paper towel until set.

Repeat, placing each made taco shell on top of the last to drain oil and set.

After they are all set, you can pile on the taco goods and enjoy!

I doing the following:

I heat my tortillas first, then put them in a pan with hot oil. I use a toothpick to keep them open when I fold them.

I also have seem people dip them in hot oil and then lay then over a coke bottle so that they get the shape of a taco shell. After a few minutes of cooling off they dip them back in the hot oil to make them crispy.
Reply:Very interesting... in Mexico we dont eat that, we use tortilla to make a taco.

Thank you I learned something new.
Reply:BUY CORN TORTILLAS AND HEAT THEM IN A SMALL AMOUNT OF GREASE AND THEN SHAPE THEM WHILE THEY ARE HOT. YOU DO NOT NEED TO COOK THEM VERY LONG JUST UNTIL THEY GET SOFT. WHEN THEY DRY THEY WILL HARDEN. STORE IN AN AIR TIGHT CONTAINER, LIKE A ZIPLOCK.
