Does anyone know where I can get bags of empty peanut shells I want about 50 lbs for mulch around flowers.?

I used to be abhle to buy 35 lb bags of empty peanut shells and used them as mulch around my roses. The nursery I bought them went out of business. What would you suggest I substitute the I could turn over and it would not hurt my flowers? I need you help. Thanks.

Maybe some of the restaurants that serve the peanuts. There are some around here....Kentucky. You eat the peanuts then just throw the shell on the floor. Maybe they would let you have the ones they sweep up.
Reply:Another alterative to peanut shells that would be easier to obtain is used coffee or tea grounds. They make a great fertilizer for roses %26amp; other plants. It offers slow release nitrogen. Coffee has an acidic character so you may want to add crushed limestone with applications. (Limestone is unnecessary for acid loving plants.) Coffee grounds are known to encourage worms %26amp; repel a lot of pests from plants.
Reply:the peanut comp. is a good way to go but you can use rice hull it will do just as well as the peanut shells or you can get some peet from a nursery
Reply:Walk around the stadium seats after a major league baseball game and youll find more than that
Reply:Contact the Plantes Peanut Co. they may have the answer you seek
Reply:Buy an elephant...hehehe
Reply:Is there a Roadhouse Restaurant near you or one where people eat the peanuts %26amp; throw the shells out?

I also saw a neat idea for mulch made from recycled tires in a catalogue. It does everything you need mulch to do without breaking down so easy.

Reply:If you have a Logans Roadhouse Steakhouse where you live, you might be able to get empty peanut shells there. They offer peanuts to their guests while they wait for tables. Serves them at the tables too...after all, it's for mulch right? no harm in using, used peanut shells the, right?
Reply:Contact a local bar and have them save them for you. Certainly they would ablige you.

Also, as an alternative, many power companies will dump the mulch from tree trimming at specific locations and advertise it for free. Contact your local power company for information.
Reply:Try cracked pecan shells. They're great and last a long time. Try your local

landscape soil supply company ( not nursersy). If not, try shredded tree

mulch. Home improvement stores sell bagged mulch. Don't go out of your

way for the peanut shells - they are no more beneficial than the above.
