Are shells some kind of rock?

I have a shell collection and I want to know if is considerd a rock.

Are shells some kind of rock?
Shells are not rocks! They are outer-skeleton of many different animals. Do a search on Wikipedia.
Reply:If I'm correct, shells are calcium, silicon, and possibly chitin that the animal that was living in that shell used to build its home. Shells are made of materials that some rocks are made of, but I really don't think that they are classified as rocks. They are more like exoskeletons than rocks.
Reply:no i think shell are a protien and or calciun deposit from a sea animal that grew on thier back for them to live in
Reply:no.

shells are the...WERE the homes of clams, and every kind of bivalve around.

Nope, they are not considered rock.

it'd be shellfish to think otherwise!
Reply:shells are the calcium carbonate secretions of certain animals like bivalves n molluscs.they are not rocks.however, shells of organisms living long ago mite be preserved as fossils.fossils are rocks
Reply:when the shells stick together its considered rock I think

like in St. AUgustine
